Elie Wiesel’s Contradictions

Over time I got a few angry letters in answer to my articles. Not only from Israelis. Recently one of the last thororughly insulted me and afterwards claimed General Ashkenazi is his hero. Good for him; I’m sure he would be sacrificed by the Warring Family et al for the sake of their Deep Pockets. Another interesting letter came from Germany. A very well educated reader pointed out that in certain interpretations I seem to accept the Zio-Pharisaic interpretation; he wrote me that after having read “The Palestinian Kristallnacht and Holocaust.”

Luckily, we have in common an extensive scientific background and thus explaining my approach could be done in three words: “reductio ad absurdum.” This refers to a method in mathematics and exact sciences designed to prove an argument is false by developing it until a logical error is shown, thus proving the original argument is false. I did that on several parts of The Cross of Bethlehem.

Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel

Probably the best example of this is in my “Open letter to the ADL.” There I claim that since the ADL goals are to "fight anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defend democratic ideals and protect civil rights for all," then – based on the Goldstone Report – they should thoroughly fight Israel. Of course, the ADL didn’t dare answering me, though they may send more terrorists to attack me.

I want to use this technique once again. This time, the event is so strange that even the Hebrew media is asking questions. Globes – Israel’s main financial newspaper – claimed on April 16, 2010, that it is not clear if Wiesel wrote the letter from his own will of if it is part of a PR campaign, initiated by Israel and enjoying the support of American Jewish organizations. Considering the usual subtexts and indirect phrasing of Hebrew speakers, Globes is hinting Wiesel is cooperating with the devil.

What did happen? On April 15, 2010, Wiesel took out full page ads in the New York Times, Washington Post and other prominent newspapers, and in an open letter to President Obama he emphasized there Jewish rights to the Jerusalem, denied Muslim connection to Jerusalem and more important, he said it is not time yet to negotiate the political future of the city. He went as far as claiming “Jerusalem is over politics,” whatever that means.

The supremacist views of Elie Wiesel aren’t new. In The Holocaust Industry, Norman Finkelstein accuses Wiesel of promoting the "uniqueness doctrine," which holds the Holocaust is the supreme evil and historically incomparable to any other genocides. Only the Jews can suffer.

For many years Wiesel wasn’t very popular in Israel. His living in the US puts his support of the State of Israel under a very strange light. If he is truly a Zionist and believes the entire world is against the Jews, then why is he there? Moreover, during the first Intifada he made important statements against the State of Israel. In an “Open Letter to Elie Wiesel” by Arthur Hertzberg from August 18, 1988, Wiesel is quoted as having said: ‘Both in Israel and in the Diaspora many—you and I among them—have been expressing our deep distress in public (and some even more so in private) over the rocks and firebombs hurled by Palestinians and the beatings and shootings by Israelis. You have expressed sympathy for the “anger of young Palestinians,” writing that the Palestinians are “treated as nonpersons,” as “objects of pity, at best.” “Why,” you say, “shouldn’t they have chosen violence as a means of attracting attention to their existence and their dreams of obtaining a national identity?” (The New York Times, June 23, 1988). You have deplored “the extremists in both camps.”’

Back then, that alone would have been considered an extremist view by the Israeli mainstream. You were almost a traitor just by saying that. Then, a couple of years before that, in your Peace Nobel Prize acceptance speech you said: “I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

So, you speak on and on about the Holocaust. You deplore violence from both sides and preach never to be silent about violence. You do that since the 1950’s. Yet, what about the Israeli violence recently described by the Goldstone Report? What about the acceptance of the Human Rights Commission of Israel being a terror inflicting organization? Why you do not openly oppose this violence? Why you want to delay a peace agreement on the Jerusalem question. If you delay peace, you work for war. Let me remind you of your own beautiful statement: “Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” Here you are not even neutral, you are openly supporting a terrorist organization inflicting endless pain and death just for the sake of it, as we have learned in the Beit Oranim Transcript. Which Elie Wiesel is speaking now? It isn’t the Auschwitz Birkenau survivor for certain. Let me remind you some very wise words:

Matthew 23:12-13 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
