Lieberman Revives Palestinian Transfer
New in the Website
The rumors about Avigdor Lieberman’s planned speech at the UN General Assembly on September 28 filled the Hebrew media on the days preceding the event. Its content seemed incredible, yet he delivered it. In an attempt to hide the bombshell, Western media filled again with items regarding another imaginary terror attack. Cheap trick: two pictures of drones (video gamers love them!) and a General Generalito in a shining suit with many stars claiming the current Terror Hussein has weapons of mass destruction and is determined – undisputedly – to use them against a shiny spot in the Holy West. Yeah, been there, heard that. No, thank you, I don’t buy that.
Lieberman said: “A final agreement between Israel and the Palestinians has to be based on a program of exchange of territory and populations.” He wants part of Israel's Arab population moved to a Palestinian state, in return for the evacuation of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Sometimes is difficult to follow the subtleties of Israeli jargon. “Israel Arabs” is the code used for Palestinians born within the Green Line, and thus full Israeli citizens. There are over a million of them. In other words, he wants to evict legal citizens from Israel, in return for the removal of Jewish settlers in the West Bank, who are violating International Law and are thus criminals. Yet, Avigdor Lieberman, the current Foreign Affairs Minister of Israel, an illegitimate settler in the West Bank, and the leader of Yisrael Beiteinu, an extremist, right wing party, a Jewish supremacist, a settler in the West Bank and a proud racist, did not invent anything.
Rehavam Ze'evi was with little doubt the most racist Israeli politician; the closest competition was the American Racist Rabbi Meir Kahane, which was assassinated in 1990. Even in the racist stronghold known as Israel, Ze’evi was seen as an extremist because his support of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza. On them, in 2001, he said to the Israeli radio: "We should get rid of the ones who are not Israeli citizens the same way you get rid of lice." He was allowed to run with the ethnic cleansing plan to the Knesset because he didn’t go into details on how the cleansing was to be achieved. A major general in the IDF, during his period as commander of the Central Command in Jerusalem, Ze’evi kept a young lion in his headquarters. Next to him, Genghis Khan looks like a soft spoken sage.
Ze’evi (the name properly means “of the wolf” in Hebrew) was assassinated on October 17, 2001 by Hamdi Quran of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Ze'evi was shot in the Jerusalem Hyatt Hotel on Mount Scopus. He was known for refusing escort from the Shin Beth. That morning the assassin intercepted him on one of the hotel corridors. “Gandhi!” he called. “Gandhi” was Ze’evi’s nickname; members of the Warring Family always have ridiculous ones (not due its reference to the noble Indian leader, but because Gandhi was the comic antithesis of brutal Ze’evi). Hearing his name, Ze’evi turned around and was shot in his face; shortly after he died in the nearby Hadassah Medical Center.
Turkey and Greece
Even Ze’evi didn’t invent anything. The "Convention Concerning the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations" was signed at Lausanne, Switzerland, on the 30th January 1923, and agreed on a population exchange between Greece and Turkey; over two million people were displaced. It was based upon religious identity, and involved the Greek Orthodox citizens of Turkey and the Muslim citizens of Greece. To this day, this is an unfinished affair. Greece and Turkey still have properties on each other territories and entire villages have been left abandoned since the exchange. The idea was creating an ethnic homogenization of each country; the result was human tragedy for generations.
Palestine and Israel
”Ethnic homogenization” is a synonym for “ethnic cleansing.” In other words, Lieberman is proposing the formation of two racist states. Who is a Jew? is a relevant question under the circumstances. Sadly, the State of Israel had failed to answer it until this day, despite its controversial Law of Return depending on this definition. The law gives automatic citizenship upon landing in the state to those born Jews (having a Jewish mother or maternal grandmother), those with Jewish ancestry (having a Jewish father or grandfather) and converts to Judaism (Orthodox, Reform, or Conservative denominations, though the last two must take place outside the state since these currents are not recognized by the Chief Rabbinate). The problems arousing from it were described in Who is a Jew?. “Who is a Palestinian” is a not less important question.
No racist regime survived along history. If Lieberman’s solution is to be accepted, the two new states would succumb to ethnic violence for the financial joy of weapons dealers and producers, who meanwhile seriously claim a new terror threat was found.
